Istanbul to Bali in 1977

In the summer of 1977 I found myself in Istanbul, with enough free time and cash to travel home taking whatever route and however much time my heart desired. Choices…I could hop on a plane and fly west via New York, and be back at SeaTac in 48 hours. Or I could travel east by train, bus, and boat. It would take months. I turned myself to the east and began traveling overland, alone.

I left Istanbul on 7/3/77, and arrived back in Seattle some time in October. I didn’t do the whole thing without resort to aircraft. Once I reached Pakistan I started hopping around on airplanes: Peshawar to Delhi, Delhi to Kashmir and so on, finally flying home from Bali. The bit from Istanbul to Peshawar in Pakistan was entirely overland, mostly by bus. I kept a journal and took photos, and then rolled it all out onto the web thirty years later in 2007.

Going Home

Palestine is a fascist state

The Democrat party may not be completely in love with Palestine, as you can see in their 2012 campaign platform; but the extreme left worships the virtue of the Palestinian cause.

However leftists also oppose fascism, and there’s the contradiction. You can’t support Palestine and oppose fascism at the same time, because Palestine is a fascist state.

Here’s the dictionary definition of fascism, courtesy of Merriam-Webster:

a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

The key features are dictatorial control, worship of the state, and racism. For evidence of Hamas’ totalitarianism and radical anti-Semitism, see the eyewitness testimony of civil rights workers, and Hamas’ own words in the text of the their charter.

The Hamas Charter
The charter calls for destruction of Israel by non-peaceful means:

Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it…Initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences, are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement…There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.

It claims that Israel is the equivalent of Nazi Germany:

The society that confronts a vicious enemy which acts in a way similar to Nazism…In their Nazi treatment, the Jews made no exception for women or children. Their policy of striking fear in the heart is meant for all. They attack people where their breadwinning is concerned, extorting their money and threatening their honour.

It accuses Jews of using money to foment disorder and corruption:

They were behind the French Revolution, the Communist revolution and most of the revolutions we heard and hear about, here and there. With their money they formed secret societies, such as Freemasons, Rotary Clubs, the Lions and others in different parts of the world for the purpose of sabotaging societies and achieving Zionist interests. With their money they were able to control imperialistic countries and instigate them to colonize many countries in order to enable them to exploit their resources and spread corruption there.

It accuses Jews of starting Word War 1 and World War 2:

They were behind World War I, when they were able to destroy the Islamic Caliphate, making financial gains and controlling resources. They obtained the Balfour Declaration, formed the League of Nations through which they could rule the world. They were behind World War II.

Sound familiar? It’s almost like Hamas copied whole sections of Mein Kampf.

Human Rights Workers
Human rights groups based inside and outside of Gaza testify to Hamas’ suppression of person liberties and dissent inside Gaza.

A Middle East researcher for Human Rights Watch wrote in the LA Times: ‘As we at Human Rights Watch documented during a trip to Gaza in May, severe violations of personal freedom, and repression of civil society groups that defend that freedom, appear to be sharply on the rise.’

A report from the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights said the following:

…the human rights situation deteriorated further. In the Gaza Strip, more restrictions were imposed on public liberties, including the right to freedom of movement, the right to freedom of opinion and expression, the right to freedom of association and the right to peaceful assembly. Security forces continued also to summon and arrest persons and subject them to torture and inhuman and degrading treatment. More death sentences were issued. Additionally, the reporting period witnessed more attacks related to the proliferation of weapons and the state of lawlessness, due to which more Palestinians were killed or injured. In the West Bank, security services continued to summon and arrest political activists and subject them to torture and inhuman and degrading treatment. PCHR observed also imposing more restrictions on public liberties, including the right to freedom of opinion and expression, the right to freedom of association and the right to peaceful assembly.

The Bottom Line
The left would love to ignore the fact that Palestine is a fascist state, but the evidence is right there in front of you.
